IGP Disu Seeks Partnership with National Judicial Institute to Enhance Police Training


The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, has called for a strategic partnership between the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) and the National Judicial Institute (NJI) to strengthen the professional capacity of police personnel through specialised legal and judicial training.

The IGP made the proposal during a courtesy visit to the National Judicial Institute, where he was received by the Administrator of the Institute, Hon. Justice Babatunde Adeniran Adejumo, OFR, alongside the Institute's Secretary, Mr. Olumo Abdulazeez, Esq., and members of the management team.



Speaking during the visit, IGP Disu reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to upholding the rule of law and enhancing the administration of criminal justice. He stressed the need for a structured collaboration with the Institute to provide continuous professional development for police lawyers, prosecutors, Investigating Police Officers (IPOs), and other personnel.

According to the IGP, the proposed training would focus on key areas, including criminal justice administration, electronic evidence, cybercrime, digital forensics, human rights, prosecution advocacy, and case management, to equip officers with the knowledge and skills required to meet evolving policing and judicial challenges.

He also proposed the introduction of executive education and professional certification programmes for police personnel, as well as joint seminars, workshops, and research initiatives aimed at improving investigative standards, strengthening prosecution, and promoting best practices in criminal justice administration.

In his response, the Administrator of the National Judicial Institute, Hon. Justice Adejumo, welcomed the proposal and expressed the Institute's readiness to collaborate with the Nigeria Police Force in advancing professional development and institutional capacity.

He also commended the Inspector-General for establishing a Police outpost within the Institute and requested additional collaboration to further strengthen security at the facility.

The visit underscores the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to forging strategic partnerships that promote professionalism, institutional excellence, and a more effective criminal justice system in Nigeria.

The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has inaugurated a high-powered Steering Committee on the Establishment of State Police, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s internal security architecture. Gunmen Hijack Funeral Convoy, Abduct Mourners Escorting FRSC Deputy Commander's Body, Demand ₦50m Ransom

A funeral procession conveying the remains of a late Deputy Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Augustine O. Ikwue, has been attacked by suspected kidnappers along the Ososo–Ajaokuta axis of Kogi State, with several mourners reportedly abducted. The late officer, popularly known as "Etume Zero," was being transported to his hometown in Benue State for burial when the armed men ambushed the convoy. According to reports, the attackers abducted several mourners and initially took away the corpse of the deceased officer into the bush alongside the victims. Citizen journalist and activist Meddy Olotu disclosed that the kidnappers later abandoned the corpse, which was subsequently recovered near Ejule in Kogi State.
