Osun Election: CP Erale Visits Government House, Warns Against Attempts to Disrupt Electoral Process

Police Commissioner assures residents of adequate security, vows to ensure peaceful and credible polls.


As preparations intensify for the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State, the Commissioner of Police in charge of election security, CP Samuel Etaifo Erale, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to ensuring a peaceful, free and credible electoral process.

CP Erale made this known during a courtesy visit to the Osun State Government House, where he met with state officials and other key stakeholders ahead of the election.

During the visit, the Police Commissioner issued a stern warning to individuals or groups planning to frustrate or disrupt the electoral process, stressing that security agencies would not tolerate any act capable of undermining the will of the people.

He assured residents that the Police, in collaboration with other security agencies, had put adequate measures in place to safeguard lives, property and all electoral materials before, during and after the election.

According to him, officers deployed for election duty have been directed to remain professional, impartial and law-abiding throughout the exercise, while anyone found engaging in violence, voter intimidation, ballot box snatching or any other electoral offence would be dealt with in accordance with the law.

CP Erale also appealed to political parties, candidates, supporters and members of the public to conduct themselves peacefully and cooperate with security personnel to ensure a successful election.

The courtesy visit forms part of ongoing engagements by the Nigeria Police Force with government officials and other stakeholders aimed at strengthening security coordination and guaranteeing a peaceful atmosphere for the conduct of the governorship election in Osun State.

The Police Command reiterated its resolve to protect the integrity of the electoral process and urged eligible voters to come out en masse to exercise their civic responsibility without fear, assuring them of adequate security throughout the election period.

Gunmen Hijack Funeral Convoy, Abduct Mourners Escorting FRSC Deputy Commander's Body, Demand ₦50m Ransom

A funeral procession conveying the remains of a late Deputy Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Augustine O. Ikwue, has been attacked by suspected kidnappers along the Ososo–Ajaokuta axis of Kogi State, with several mourners reportedly abducted. The late officer, popularly known as "Etume Zero," was being transported to his hometown in Benue State for burial when the armed men ambushed the convoy. According to reports, the attackers abducted several mourners and initially took away the corpse of the deceased officer into the bush alongside the victims. Citizen journalist and activist Meddy Olotu disclosed that the kidnappers later abandoned the corpse, which was subsequently recovered near Ejule in Kogi State.
