President Tinubu Nominates New CBN Governor, 4 Deputy Governors For Senate Approval

President Bola Tinubu has put forth the nomination of Dr. Olayemi Michael Cardoso as the prospective Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for an initial tenure of five years. This recommendation awaits the confirmation of the Nigerian Senate.

In alignment with Section 8 (1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007, the President of Nigeria has the mandate to appoint both the Governor and four Deputy Governors for the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). However, these nominations are subject to the affirmation of the Nigerian Senate.

Adding to this, President Tinubu has proposed four new Deputy Governors for the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), each for a five-year term in the initial instance. These nominations will also require Senate confirmation. The nominees are:

Mrs. Emem Nnana Usoro
Mr. Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo
Mr. Philip Ikeazor
Dr. Bala M. Bello

These appointments resonate with President Tinubu's "Renewed Hope" agenda. The President envisions the nominees to drive pivotal reforms within the Central Bank of Nigeria. These reforms are expected to bolster both domestic and international confidence, steering the Nigerian economy towards enduring growth and ensuring prosperity for all.
