LAGOS — CIG Motors Group has reinforced its commitment to strengthening security in Lagos State with the donation of 10 operational vehicles valued at over N300 million to the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF).
The vehicles, which are expected to enhance the mobility, logistics and rapid-response capabilities of security personnel across the state, were formally handed over by the Chairman of CIG Motors Group, Chief Diana Chen, to the Executive Secretary/CEO of LSSTF, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, at the company’s international headquarters in Victoria Island, Lagos.
The fleet comprises four Wuling N111 vehicles, three Wuling XC250 vehicles and three JMC Vigus pickup trucks.
The vehicles will support field deployment, emergency response, logistics and other security operations, enabling personnel to respond more efficiently to emerging threats across Lagos.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, Ogunsan commended Chief Diana Chen and CIG Motors Group for what he described as their sustained commitment to Lagos State and its security architecture.
He noted that the intervention was particularly significant because LSSTF is a donor-funded interventionist agency whose capacity to support security agencies depends substantially on contributions from individuals, businesses and corporate organisations.
“Madam, we will not forget this in a long time. Generations will not forget it. Posterity will not forget it. Your name will be written in gold for taking this bold step,” Ogunsan said.
The LSSTF boss assured CIG Motors that the vehicles would be properly maintained and deployed to achieve maximum operational impact.
He described the donation as more than a contribution to security, stressing that it represented an investment in the safety, stability and prosperity of Lagos.
Ogunsan also pledged to promote CIG Motors as a worthy private-sector partner, joking that he would henceforth serve as the company’s “sales representative” in appreciation of its contribution to the state’s security architecture.
Security as Foundation for Economic Growth
In her remarks, Chief Diana Chen, whose company is the exclusive distributor of GAC Motor, Wuling and JMC vehicles in Nigeria, emphasised the importance of security to economic development.
According to her, a secure environment is essential for investment, enterprise, employment and sustainable development.
“Security is the first infrastructure of prosperity. Protecting Lagos means protecting lives, livelihoods, enterprise and the economic future of our nation,” Chen said.
She described Lagos as Nigeria’s commercial capital and one of Africa’s major economic centres, noting that its continued growth depends on an environment where residents, businesses and investors can operate safely.
“This donation is a practical contribution to strengthening the institutions responsible for protecting Lagos and its people,” she added.
Chen said CIG Motors remained a long-term business and development partner to the Lagos State Government, with its investments spanning mobility, local vehicle assembly, employment, public transportation and security support.
“Our previous interventions and today’s donation reflect our commitment to the security and prosperity of Lagos State. When Lagos is safer, businesses can grow, jobs are protected and communities prosper. Supporting security is an investment in the future of the state and everyone who lives or conducts business here,” she said.
CIG Motors’ History of Security Support
The latest donation builds on CIG Motors’ longstanding interventions in support of security and public-sector institutions.
In September 2020, the company donated five fully equipped Dongfeng security operational trucks to the Lagos State Security Trust Fund. The vehicles were subsequently deployed to the Rapid Response Squad, Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps and Lagos State Taskforce.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chief Diana Chen Foundation also partnered with the Lagos State Government, donating 50,000 face masks, an ambulance and N20 million to support frontline security and healthcare interventions.
In August 2022, CIG Motors donated a brand-new vehicle to the Federal Road Safety Corps, Lagos Sector Command, as part of its corporate social responsibility programme.
The company has also supplied 150 vehicles to the Dangote Group for use by the Nigeria Police Force and established partnerships with several state governments across Nigeria to strengthen security operations.
Beyond security, CIG Motors’ partnership with the Lagos State Government extends to transportation and economic empowerment.
Through investments in local automobile assembly and its partnership with the state on the LAGRIDE initiative, the company has contributed to modern transportation, employment creation, driver empowerment and improved urban mobility.
