IGP Tunji Disu Inaugurates Steering Committee on Establishment of State Police


The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has inaugurated a high-powered Steering Committee on the Establishment of State Police, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s internal security architecture.
The committee is chaired by Prof. Olu Ogunsakin, Director-General of the National Institute for Police Studies, Jabi, Abuja. A respected authority in policing policy and institutional reform, Prof. Ogunsakin is expected to provide strategic leadership in guiding the committee’s deliberations.
Serving as Secretary is Bode Ojajuni, Commissioner of Police, who will coordinate the committee’s activities and ensure seamless execution of its mandate.

Suleyman Gulma, Deputy Commissioner of Police

Speaking at the inauguration, the IGP emphasized that the establishment of the committee underscores the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to professional reform, strategic planning, and proactive engagement with emerging security demands. He charged members to develop comprehensive policy recommendations, legal frameworks, and an implementation roadmap that will guide the structured development of State Police across the federation.
The inauguration of the Steering Committee represents a bold and strategic step toward enhancing community-based policing, strengthening collaboration with sub-national governments, and reinforcing public confidence in law enforcement institutions.

Gunmen Hijack Funeral Convoy, Abduct Mourners Escorting FRSC Deputy Commander's Body, Demand ₦50m Ransom

A funeral procession conveying the remains of a late Deputy Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Augustine O. Ikwue, has been attacked by suspected kidnappers along the Ososo–Ajaokuta axis of Kogi State, with several mourners reportedly abducted. The late officer, popularly known as "Etume Zero," was being transported to his hometown in Benue State for burial when the armed men ambushed the convoy. According to reports, the attackers abducted several mourners and initially took away the corpse of the deceased officer into the bush alongside the victims. Citizen journalist and activist Meddy Olotu disclosed that the kidnappers later abandoned the corpse, which was subsequently recovered near Ejule in Kogi State.
