Training Targets Transparency, Professionalism in Line with Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Security Directive
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has commenced a high-level training workshop for its staff as part of preparations to implement the Federal Government’s directive to recruit 50,000 additional constables into the Nigeria Police Force.
The workshop, which opened today, is designed to equip Commission personnel with the technical expertise, procedural knowledge, and ethical orientation required to conduct what is expected to be one of the largest recruitment exercises in the history of the Force.
Declaring the workshop open on behalf of the PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd) mni, Honourable Commissioner, Hon. Justice Paul Adamu Galumje JSC (rtd), conveyed the Chairman’s goodwill to facilitators and participants. He noted that the Chairman would join the training after attending another official state engagement.
Justice Galumje described the recruitment drive as a direct response to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening internal security across the country. According to him, the presidential directive reflects deep concern over the nation’s security challenges and underscores the urgency of expanding the manpower capacity of the Police.
“This directive is a result of the President’s concern about security in the country,” Justice Galumje stated. “It is therefore our responsibility to work diligently to ensure the successful implementation of the President’s directive, especially when all that is required has been made available.”
He urged participants to pay close attention to the training modules, engage actively in discussions, and apply the knowledge gained to ensure the recruitment exercise is seamless and credible.
In his keynote address, Chairman of the PSC Standing Committee on NPF Matters, DIG (Dr.) Taiwo Lakanu (rtd) fdc, described the recruitment of 50,000 additional personnel as a bold and timely intervention aimed at addressing Nigeria’s growing security demands.
DIG Lakanu commended the PSC leadership for anchoring the recruitment process on transparency, accountability, and professionalism. He emphasized that the integrity and competence of those recruited would significantly shape the future effectiveness and public perception of the Police Force.
“This training provides an opportunity to refresh your knowledge, address grey areas, and ensure uniformity in implementation across board,” he said. “You are ambassadors of the Police Service Commission. Your conduct throughout this exercise will either reinforce or diminish public trust in our institutions.”
The interactive training sessions will focus on recruitment guidelines, ethical standards, operational procedures, and legal compliance frameworks. The Commission reiterated its commitment to ensuring that the recruitment exercise is fair, inclusive, merit-based, and credible.
