...EU Observers Commend Electoral Process as Security Agencies Record Zero Major Incidents
Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State :The Commissioner of Police in charge of election security operations, CP Abayomi Shogunle, has briefed the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the South West geopolitical zone and ICT, DIG Adegoke Fayoade mni on the successful and peaceful conduct of the Ekiti State Governorship Election.
The briefing formed part of tprocess election security assessment undertaken by the DIG, who traversed several communities, border towns, and strategic locations across the state to personally monitor security deployments and ensure a violence free electoral process.
Presenting his report, CP Shogunle informed the DIG that all operational deployments functioned effectively throughout the election period, with officers maintaining a strong presence across polling units, collation centres, and other critical locations. He noted that the election was conducted in an atmosphere of peace, orderliness, and public confidence, allowing eligible voters to freely exercise their democratic rights.
According to the CP Shogunle reports from both domestic and international election observers were overwhelmingly positive. He disclosed that members of the European Union Election Observation Mission and other accredited observers commended the peaceful nature of the exercise, describing it as credible, transparent, and largely devoid of security threats or electoral violence.
CP Shogunle further reported that there were no significant security breaches, attacks, voter intimidation, or disruptions recorded during the election, attributing the success to meticulous planning, intelligence-driven operations, inter-agency collaboration, and the cooperation of residents and political stakeholders.
Receiving the report, DIG Fayoade expressed satisfaction with the conduct of security personnel and praised officers and men deployed for election duties for their professionalism, discipline, and commitment to democratic principles.
DIG Fayoade reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to protecting democratic institutions and ensuring that future elections across the South West continue to be conducted in a peaceful, secure, and credible environment.
The successful conduct of the Ekiti Governorship Election has been widely hailed as a major achievement for security agencies and electoral stakeholders, further strengthening public confidence in Nigeria's democratic process.
