...Emotional DIG Meets Parents, Community Leaders; Visits Alaafin of Oyo, Soun of Ogbomoso
The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the South-West, Adegoke Fayoade, on a fact-finding and operational assessment tour, stormed Yawota and Ahoro-Esinle communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State following the recent abduction of students and teachers that has thrown the communities into grief and anxiety.
The visit, which formed part of the DIG's ongoing security assessment across the South-West zone, was marked by emotion as he interacted directly with distraught parents, community leaders, traditional rulers, teachers and residents affected by the unfortunate incident.
Addressing the gathering, DIG Fayoade assured the communities that the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with other security agencies, had intensified efforts to secure the safe rescue of the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice. He emphasized that the Inspector-General of Police remains committed to ensuring the safety of all Nigerians, particularly schoolchildren whose education and welfare must not be threatened by criminal elements.
The visibly concerned DIG listened attentively to parents who recounted the trauma and uncertainty they have faced since the kidnapping occurred. Many of them appealed to security agencies to sustain rescue operations and strengthen security around schools and vulnerable communities.
Speaking during the engagement, community leaders commended the DIG for personally visiting the affected areas, describing the move as a demonstration of empathy, leadership and commitment to addressing security challenges confronting rural communities.
DIG Fayoade assured residents that intelligence gathering, tactical deployment and coordinated security operations had been strengthened across the affected axis and neighboring communities. He urged residents to continue providing credible information that could assist security agencies in tracking down criminal elements operating within the region.
As part of the tour, the DIG also paid courtesy visits to the revered Alaafin of Oyo and the Soun of Ogbomoso, where discussions centered on strengthening community policing, intelligence sharing and collaborative efforts between traditional institutions and security agencies in combating kidnapping, banditry and other forms of criminality.
The traditional rulers expressed concern over the rising security threats in some rural communities and pledged continued support for security agencies through enhanced community engagement and timely intelligence.
The DIG's visit is expected to boost the confidence of residents and reassure affected families that security agencies are working tirelessly to ensure the safe return of the kidnapped students and teachers while preventing future occurrences.
The South-West Police chief reiterated that no effort would be spared in the ongoing rescue operations, stressing that the safety and security of citizens remain the foremost priority of the Nigeria Police Force.
