DIG Fayoade Strengthens Traditional-Police Partnership, Pays Strategic Visit to Oba Akiolu and Zone 2 Headquarters

The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the South-West Geo Political Zone and DIG ICT, DIG Adegoke Mustapha Fayoade, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to transparency, accountability, effective communication, and community-driven security during a strategic visit to the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, and the Zone 2 Police Command Headquarters in Lagos.
The visit formed part of the DIG's ongoing engagements aimed at fostering stronger collaboration between security institutions, traditional authorities, and the public in the collective pursuit of peace, security, and national development across the South West region.
At the palace of the revered Oba of Lagos, DIG Fayoade emphasized the indispensable role of traditional institutions in supporting law enforcement efforts and maintaining peace within communities. He noted that strengthening the partnership between the police and traditional rulers remains critical to enhancing intelligence gathering, promoting community policing, and improving public trust in security agencies.
Addressing stakeholders during the visit, the DIG highlighted the importance of effective communication in governance, public awareness, and nation-building. According to him, improving the way information is communicated to the public remains one of the key priorities of modern policing.
"I have been working on improving the way information is communicated and shared with the public. Effective communication is very important because it helps people understand issues clearly and promotes greater awareness and participation," DIG Fayoade stated.
He explained that every segment of society, including students, traders, professionals, artisans, and community leaders, contributes significantly to national development and economic growth. He commended Nigerians for their resilience and unwavering commitment to nation-building despite prevailing challenges.
DIG Fayoade further reiterated the importance of transparency, accountability, and fairness in leadership and public service, stressing that justice and discipline must remain the foundation of any progressive society.
"I want to assure you that transparency, accountability, and fairness will continue to guide our actions. Whenever wrongdoing is discovered, appropriate measures will be taken. No individual should hide behind position or privilege to evade responsibility," he said.
The senior police officer also underscored the need for visionary and responsible leadership at all levels, noting that leaders must remain committed to addressing societal challenges while preserving the values that unite Nigerians. He described the engagements as an opportunity to reflect on past achievements, assess current realities, and renew collective commitments toward building safer and more prosperous communities.
DIG Fayoade paid tribute to individuals who have made sacrifices in service to the nation, stating that their dedication should inspire greater efforts toward sustaining peace, security, and development across the country.
Responding, the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu, commended the Nigeria Police Force for its efforts in maintaining law and order and acknowledged the progress recorded in various sectors of national development.
The revered monarch stressed the importance of sustaining developmental gains while ensuring that the benefits of growth reach every part of the country.
"Much progress has been made over time, and we must continue to build on those achievements. While challenges remain, we should focus on moving forward and ensuring that development reaches every part of the country," Oba Akiolu stated.
The monarch emphasized the need for exemplary leadership and responsible citizenship, noting that every Nigerian has a role to play in supporting initiatives that promote public welfare and national security.
According to him, security remains one of the most important responsibilities of government and security agencies, warning that failure to protect lives and property carries grave consequences for society.
"Those entrusted with protecting lives and property must carry out their duties diligently. Ensuring the safety of our people is not optional—it is a fundamental obligation," he said.
Oba Akiolu also urged Nigerians to reject divisive sentiments capable of fueling political, religious, or social conflicts. Instead, he advocated for unity, peaceful coexistence, and constructive engagement as pathways to national progress.
