Joint petroleum downstream stakeholders in Rivers State, comprising the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), the Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) branch of NUPENG, the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN), and other industry partners, on Monday warmly received the newly deployed Rivers State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Corps Commander Dr. Reuben, at the Energy for Life Sobaz Corporate Office in Port Harcourt.
Speaking during the courtesy visit, the Board of Trustees (BOT) Chairman of the stakeholders' forum, Chief Obasi Lawson, welcomed the new Commandant and assured him of the unwavering support and cooperation of all petroleum stakeholders in the state to ensure a successful and productive tenure.
Also speaking, the PTD NUPENG Zonal Chairman, Comrade Joseph Okafor, JP, expressed appreciation to the Commandant for the visit and reaffirmed the commitment of the unions and stakeholders to maintaining a cordial working relationship with the NSCDC. He stressed that the unions remain firmly opposed to all forms of illegal activities within the petroleum sector and pledged continued collaboration with security agencies to safeguard the industry.
Comrade Okafor, however, appealed to the Commandant to remain accessible to union leadership whenever urgent interventions become necessary, noting that prompt communication and cooperation are essential to sustaining peace and operational stability within the sector.
In his response, Corps Commander Dr. Reuben thanked the stakeholders for the warm reception and expressed his readiness to work closely with all industry players. To enhance coordination, ensure seamless operations, and prevent avoidable complications, the Commandant requested that the various unions designate liaison officers to interface directly with the NSCDC.
He further proposed the introduction of NSCDC depot ticketing across all depots in the state as part of measures aimed at strengthening security oversight, improving operational efficiency, and fostering a more organized petroleum distribution system.
The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by both the NSCDC and petroleum stakeholders to deepen cooperation in promoting safety, security, and smooth business operations across Rivers State.
