NUC Approves 10 New Postgraduate Programmes for Nigeria Police Academy, Expands Academic Frontiers

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved 10 new postgraduate programmes for the Nigeria Police Academy (POLAC), Wudil, Kano State, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s drive to strengthen professional, security, and academic education in Nigeria.

The approval followed a comprehensive resource verification exercise conducted by a team from the NUC, which assessed the Academy’s facilities, academic resources, and staff readiness before granting accreditation for the programmes.

The newly approved postgraduate programmes, which will run on a full-time basis, include:

1. Master’s in Crime Management, Prevention and Control (MCM)
2. Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Crime Management, Prevention and Control
3. Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Peace and Conflict Studies
4. Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Police Studies
5. Master of Science (M.Sc.) and Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Business Administration and Entrepreneurship
6. Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) and Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Management Studies
7. Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) and Master of Laws (LL.M.) Programme
8. Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) and Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Biochemistry
9. Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) and Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Financial Economics
10. Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) and Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Forensic and DNA Studies

The approval represents a major boost to the Academy’s mission of developing highly skilled professionals equipped to address contemporary security, governance, and developmental challenges.

While the Nigeria Police Academy has traditionally focused on the training and capacity building of police officers, the newly approved programmes will be open not only to personnel of the Nigeria Police Force but also to officers of other security and intelligence agencies, as well as qualified members of the general public.

The Academy said details regarding admission requirements, application procedures, and registration timelines for the programmes will be announced in due course.
