Ondo Police Arrest Suspect Over Murder of 60-Year-Old Woman in Ore, Recover Machete
ORE, ONDO STATE — The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a suspected murderer, identified as Samuel Akoade, in connection with the alleged killing of a 60-year-old woman, Mrs. Olufunke Amoo, in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred on Sunday, August 16, 2026, after the police received a report that the woman had been found lying in a pool of blood at her residence.
According to the Command, preliminary investigation revealed that the deceased sustained deep machete cuts and was already dead when she was discovered.
Following the report, operatives of the Ore Divisional Police Headquarters swiftly mobilised to the scene, secured the area and commenced preliminary investigations.
A machete suspected to have been used in the attack was recovered from the scene, while photographs and other relevant evidence were documented as part of the investigation.
The suspected assailant, who was initially identified only as Samuel, reportedly fled the scene before the arrival of the police.
However, following sustained efforts by police operatives, the suspect was subsequently identified as Samuel Akoade and arrested. He is currently in police custody.
The remains of the deceased have been deposited at a mortuary, while the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Akure, for further investigation.
The Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix N. Ohagwu, psc, mnips, mspsp, has directed the investigating team to conduct a thorough and professional investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing.
The CP further ordered that anyone found culpable in connection with the incident be brought to justice.
The Ondo State Police Command reassured residents of its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
The Command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide timely and credible information about suspicious activities in their communities to assist the police in preventing crime and protecting lives.
