Ondo Police Arrest Suspected Visa Fraudster Over Alleged ₦42.3 Million Travel Scam

The Ondo State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its sustained fight against financial crimes with the arrest of a suspected visa fraudster accused of defrauding more than 90 prospective travellers of ₦42.326 million under the pretext of facilitating travel visas to Europe.

The suspect, identified as Adejoke Ayomide, 33, of Adesoye Street, Abeokuta, Ogun State, was arrested following an intensive intelligence-led investigation by detectives of the Command.

According to the Police, the case originated from a petition dated July 17, 2026, submitted by Barrister Akindayomi Oluwa Tobi & Associates on behalf of the victims. The petition alleged that the suspect fraudulently obtained large sums of money from numerous individuals between October 2024 and April 5, 2026.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Adejoke allegedly presented herself as a professional travel consultant with the capacity to secure visas to Spain, Portugal and France.

Relying on her representations, more than 93 intending travellers reportedly paid money into her Opay account for visa processing and travel documentation. Investigators said the suspect received a total of ₦42,326,000 from the victims.

However, rather than processing the visas as promised, she allegedly became unreachable after receiving the funds, forcing the victims to seek police intervention.

Following the petition, detectives of the Ondo State Police Command launched a comprehensive investigation, deploying intelligence gathering and forensic investigative techniques to trace the suspect.

The operation culminated in her arrest on August 5, 2026, during a coordinated operation by operatives of the Command.

Police disclosed that the suspect is currently in custody and has made useful confessional statements. Investigators are also working to determine the full extent of the alleged fraud, identify possible accomplices and establish whether additional victims may have been affected.

The Police confirmed that the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Commending the officers involved in the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Ondo State Command, CP Felix Ohagwu, psc, mnips, mspsp, praised their professionalism, dedication and resilience, describing the arrest as another demonstration of the Command's commitment to combating financial crimes.

He reaffirmed that the Command remains resolute in ensuring that perpetrators of fraud and other criminal offences are identified, arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The Commissioner also advised members of the public to exercise caution when dealing with travel consultants and agencies. He urged prospective travellers to verify the authenticity and credentials of visa agents before making any payments and to promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest Police Station.

The Ondo State Police Command reiterated its commitment to protecting residents from fraud and other criminal activities while ensuring justice is served.

A funeral procession conveying the remains of a late Deputy Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Augustine O. Ikwue, has been attacked by suspected kidnappers along the Ososo–Ajaokuta axis of Kogi State, with several mourners reportedly abducted.
