The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, psc, FCSS, MNIPR, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to religious tolerance, peaceful coexistence and national unity.
CP Ojajuni made the call while joining Catholic faithful, senior police officers and members of the Police community at St. Martin’s Police Catholic Church, Ogun State, for a ceremony marking three significant milestones in the spiritual development of the Catholic community.
The occasion was presided over by the Catholic Bishop of Abeokuta Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Peter Olukayode Odetoyinbo, and witnessed by senior officers including ACP Gloria Otonko, ACP X-Squad, alongside other officers and members of the Catholic community.
A major highlight of the event was the administration of the Sacrament of Confirmation to 65 candidates by Bishop Odetoyinbo.
The ceremony brought together the candidates, their families and members of the Catholic faithful in an atmosphere of worship, thanksgiving and spiritual renewal.
The Bishop also blessed the newly constructed Grotto of Our Mother of Perpetual Help, a sacred facility designed to provide a serene environment for prayer, devotion and spiritual reflection within the Police community.
Another significant moment was the foundation-laying and blessing ceremony for the Catholic Chaplains’ House, which is expected to provide residential accommodation for Catholic Chaplains and further strengthen pastoral and spiritual activities among Police personnel.
Speaking at the occasion, CP Ojajuni congratulated the 65 candidates who received the Sacrament of Confirmation and commended the Catholic community for its commitment to faith, discipline, peaceful coexistence and service to humanity.
The Commissioner stressed the importance of religious tolerance and mutual respect among adherents of different faiths, noting that Nigeria’s strength lies in its diversity and the ability of citizens to coexist peacefully regardless of religious or ethnic differences.
He assured that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to protect the rights of citizens to freely practise their respective religions within the provisions of the law.
According to him, religious tolerance remains critical to achieving sustainable peace and security, urging religious leaders and faithful across all denominations to continue promoting messages of love, unity, understanding and peaceful coexistence.
CP Ojajuni also called on members of different faith communities to reject extremism, intolerance and ideologies capable of threatening the peace, security and unity of the country.
The Commissioner commended the Catholic Chaplain, CSP Rev. Fr. Paul Omotosho, for his dedication to the spiritual welfare of Police personnel and members of the Catholic community.
He noted that spiritual guidance plays an important role in promoting moral discipline, integrity and responsible conduct among security personnel.
The event ended with prayers and thanksgiving, as members of the Police Catholic community celebrated the spiritual milestones and renewed their commitment to faith, service and peaceful coexistence.
