GERMAN GOVERNMENT COMMITTS TO ENHANCED SUPPORT FOR PSC, URGES INSTITUTIONALIZATION OF POLICE REFORM  

The Police Service Commission has secured a commitment from the German Government for increased and sustained support for the ongoing Police Reform initiatives in the country.  

On Tuesday, January 28, 2025, the Commission's Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd) mni, met with the German Ambassador to Nigeria, Ms. Annett Gunther, in Abuja, where he expressed the Commission’s appreciation for the continuous support received from the German Government. Accompanying the Chairman were Hon. Justice Adamu Paul Galumje, a retired Supreme Court Justice, and the Honorable Commissioner representing the Judiciary within the Commission.  

Ambassador Gunther indicated that the Embassy's collaboration with the Commission has been active since 2022 across various sectors, highlighting Germany's assistance in areas such as the development of standards for effective implementation.

The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has inaugurated a high-powered Steering Committee on the Establishment of State Police, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s internal security architecture. The committee is chaired by Prof. Olu Ogunsakin, Director-General of the National Institute for Police Studies, Jabi, Abuja. Gunmen Hijack Funeral Convoy, Abduct Mourners Escorting FRSC Deputy Commander's Body, Demand ₦50m Ransom

A funeral procession conveying the remains of a late Deputy Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Augustine O. Ikwue, has been attacked by suspected kidnappers along the Ososo–Ajaokuta axis of Kogi State, with several mourners reportedly abducted. The late officer, popularly known as "Etume Zero," was being transported to his hometown in Benue State for burial when the armed men ambushed the convoy. According to reports, the attackers abducted several mourners and initially took away the corpse of the deceased officer into the bush alongside the victims. Citizen journalist and activist Meddy Olotu disclosed that the kidnappers later abandoned the corpse, which was subsequently recovered near Ejule in Kogi State. However, the abducted mourners remain in captivity. The kidnappers are reportedly demanding a ransom of ₦50 million for the release of the victims.
