PSC Concludes Induction Programme, Commends Delegates for Unity and Commitment

The four-day induction programme for Board Members of the Police Service Commission (PSC) successfully concluded on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State. The event commenced on Sunday with a pre-induction dinner, followed by an opening ceremony on Monday, which attracted eminent Nigerians, and presentations on Tuesday and Wednesday.

DIG Taiwo Lakanu, fdc, Honourable Commissioner representing the Police in the Commission, chaired the closing ceremony. He commended the delegates, emphasizing that the collaborative spirit and shared commitment to enhancing the Commission's effectiveness were evident in every discussion throughout the programme.


“Let us take the knowledge gained from this induction back to our respective roles and implement it towards the betterment of our Commission,” DIG Lakanu urged.

He expressed appreciation to participants for their active engagement, noting that the expertise and dedication of the resource persons over the past days not only enlightened the attendees but also sparked insightful discussions that will positively influence the Commission's work.

Special recognition was given to the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, who was the Special Guest of Honour. DIG Lakanu praised his benevolence and humanitarian nature, and highlighted his generous donation of 18 hectares of land for the construction of a Police Training College for short-term courses for members of the Nigeria Police Force.

He also thanked Deputy Senate President, Senator Barau Jibrin, CFR, for representing the Senate President and attending in his personal capacity. DIG Lakanu acknowledged Senator Barau's donation of an educational complex located in Kabo, built on several hectares of land, for the training of PSC staff.

Furthermore, DIG Lakanu expressed sincere gratitude to Senator Abdulhamid Ahmed Mallam Madori, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Police Affairs, for his presence at the opening ceremony.

Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, Secretary to the Commission, in his brief remarks, lauded the spirit of togetherness that prevailed throughout the programme. He stressed the importance of unity and cautioned against internal crises, which he described as destructive and detrimental to progress.

Chief Nnamani advised the Board Members to remain united and coordinated, emphasizing that the success of the new Board depends on its ability to work as one.

The programme also featured presentations from Heads of Departments and Units.

Gunmen Hijack Funeral Convoy, Abduct Mourners Escorting FRSC Deputy Commander's Body, Demand ₦50m Ransom

A funeral procession conveying the remains of a late Deputy Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Augustine O. Ikwue, has been attacked by suspected kidnappers along the Ososo–Ajaokuta axis of Kogi State, with several mourners reportedly abducted. The late officer, popularly known as "Etume Zero," was being transported to his hometown in Benue State for burial when the armed men ambushed the convoy. According to reports, the attackers abducted several mourners and initially took away the corpse of the deceased officer into the bush alongside the victims. Citizen journalist and activist Meddy Olotu disclosed that the kidnappers later abandoned the corpse, which was subsequently recovered near Ejule in Kogi State.
