Edo State Welcomes Federal Ministers for Commissioning of World-Class Cancer Centre at UBTH


The Executive Governor of Edo State was ably represented by his Deputy, His Excellency Hon. Dennis Idahosa, accompanied by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Hon. Gani Audu, as they warmly received three distinguished members of the Federal Executive Council: the Honourable Minister of Health, Alhaji Ali Pate; the Coordinating Minister of Finance, Chief Wale Edun; and the Honourable Minister of Information.

The federal ministers visited Benin City for the official commissioning of one of Africa's most advanced Cancer Centres, located at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).

In his remarks at the event, Hon. Dennis Idahosa applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to the health sector and for staying true to his campaign promises. He extended heartfelt appreciation to the Honourable Minister of Health for choosing Edo State as the host of such a monumental health infrastructure.

The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has inaugurated a high-powered Steering Committee on the Establishment of State Police, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s internal security architecture. Gunmen Hijack Funeral Convoy, Abduct Mourners Escorting FRSC Deputy Commander's Body, Demand ₦50m Ransom

A funeral procession conveying the remains of a late Deputy Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Augustine O. Ikwue, has been attacked by suspected kidnappers along the Ososo–Ajaokuta axis of Kogi State, with several mourners reportedly abducted. The late officer, popularly known as "Etume Zero," was being transported to his hometown in Benue State for burial when the armed men ambushed the convoy. According to reports, the attackers abducted several mourners and initially took away the corpse of the deceased officer into the bush alongside the victims. Citizen journalist and activist Meddy Olotu disclosed that the kidnappers later abandoned the corpse, which was subsequently recovered near Ejule in Kogi State. However, the abducted mourners remain in captivity. The kidnappers are reportedly demanding a ransom of ₦50 million for the release of the victims.
