FCT Police Command Records Major Breakthroughs in Crime Fighting for May and June 2025

In line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has recorded significant achievements in its ongoing efforts to curb crime and enhance security within Abuja and its environs.
Following an intensive crime-mapping exercise and identification of criminal hotspots across the FCT, the Command developed and implemented a robust action plan. These efforts yielded remarkable results during the months of May and June 2025.

Arrests and Crime Statistics

A total of 49 cases were reported within the review period, resulting in the arrest of 82 suspects. Below is a breakdown of key operations:

Kidnapping: 7 cases recorded; 17 suspects arrested, 3 neutralized.

Foiled Kidnapping Attempts: 5 incidents foiled in Apo Waru, Byhazin, Karshi, Kawo-Bwari, and Gidan-Dogo Forest in Kweri and Abaji. 3 suspects arrested; 3 neutralized during a shootout at Kawo village clinic, Bwari.

Foiled Robbery: 5 cases (1 in Apo, 4 in Kubwa); 6 suspects arrested. Recovered items include 4 vehicles, a jackknife, military camouflage, and pistol ammunition.

Armed Robbery: 5 reported cases; 17 suspects arrested.

Theft: 6 cases; 9 suspects arrested.

Illegal Possession of Firearms: 1 case; 1 suspect arrested.

"One-Chance" Robbery: 1 case; 4 suspects arrested.

Attempted Homicide: 1 case; 1 suspect arrested. Recovered: 1 locally fabricated pump-action shotgun and an expended cartridge.

Fraud: 1 case; 2 suspects arrested.

Car Theft: 4 cases; 5 suspects arrested, including scrap dealers involved in dismantling and reselling stolen vehicles.

Domestic Violence: 2 cases reported.

Child Trafficking: 4 cases (transferred to SCID); 8 suspects arrested.

Rape: 12 cases reported; 10 suspects arrested. 4 cases remain under investigation.


Rescue Operations

3 trafficked children rescued.

8 abandoned babies recovered and handed over to the Social Welfare Centre.

10 rape victims assisted and taken into protective custody.


Exhibits and Recoveries
Firearms: 3 AK-47 rifles with magazines, 1 locally made pistol, 1 Beretta pistol, 1 pump-action shotgun, 2 LAR rifles, and 36 rounds of ammunition.

Other Weapons: Axe, sharp spear, short knife, and 9 walkie-talkies recovered from robbery scenes.

Stolen Items Recovered: 1 AC unit, 2 motorcycles, 27 iron rods, 9 mobile phones, 11 power banks, 3 AirPods, 1 smartwatch, 8 ATM cards, 6 phone chargers, and 1 Sumac Fireman generator.

Cash: ₦79,000 recovered from a theft case.

Weapons from Foiled Robbery: 1 jackknife.


Vehicle Recoveries

10 vehicles recovered across divisions in Durumi, Kubwa, Central Area, and the Anti-One-Chance Squad.

2 motorcycles recovered from kidnapping suspects.


Strategic Focus for the Coming Months

To consolidate on the gains recorded, the FCT Police Command will intensify:

Community policing engagements.

Intelligence-led policing operations.

Targeted clearance and raid operations.

Public enlightenment campaigns to tackle emerging security concerns.

Gunmen Hijack Funeral Convoy, Abduct Mourners Escorting FRSC Deputy Commander's Body, Demand ₦50m Ransom

A funeral procession conveying the remains of a late Deputy Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Augustine O. Ikwue, has been attacked by suspected kidnappers along the Ososo–Ajaokuta axis of Kogi State, with several mourners reportedly abducted. The late officer, popularly known as "Etume Zero," was being transported to his hometown in Benue State for burial when the armed men ambushed the convoy. According to reports, the attackers abducted several mourners and initially took away the corpse of the deceased officer into the bush alongside the victims. Citizen journalist and activist Meddy Olotu disclosed that the kidnappers later abandoned the corpse, which was subsequently recovered near Ejule in Kogi State.
