Strengthening the Frontline Against Drug Abuse

AIG Adegoke Fayoade Hosts NDLEA Zone 8 Commander, Pledges Deeper Police–NDLEA Synergy
In a strategic move to reinforce inter-agency collaboration in the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking, the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2 Headquarters, AIG Adegoke M. Fayoade, mni, psc, on Monday received the Zonal Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Zone 8, Lagos, ACGN Stella Ngozi Ngwoke, on a courtesy and familiarisation visit at the Zone 2 Headquarters, Onikan, Lagos.
The visit, marked by warm reception and constructive engagement, underscored the growing need for coordinated security efforts in addressing the rising menace of drug and substance abuse within society. Speaking during the visit, ACGN Stella Ngozi Ngwoke explained that the purpose of the courtesy call was to strengthen operational synergy, foster mutual support, and deepen collaboration between the NDLEA and the Nigeria Police Force—particularly during large-scale and intelligence-driven operations.
She emphasized that effective policing against drug trafficking and abuse requires seamless cooperation among security agencies, noting that sustained partnership with the Police remains critical to the NDLEA’s mandate of safeguarding communities from the devastating impact of narcotics.
In his response, AIG Adegoke M. Fayoade warmly welcomed the NDLEA Zonal Commander and commended the Agency for its relentless efforts in combating drug-related crimes. He reaffirmed the unwavering commitment of the Nigeria Police Force under Zone 2 Command to support NDLEA operations, assuring that the Police would continue to provide all necessary assistance whenever required.
The AIG further noted that drug and substance abuse has evolved into a serious social threat, describing it as a growing pandemic with far-reaching consequences on security, youth development, and societal stability. According to him, only sustained inter-agency collaboration can effectively stem the tide and protect communities from its corrosive effects.

The visit concluded on a note of renewed partnership, reinforcing the shared resolve of both agencies to intensify joint operations and intelligence sharing in the collective pursuit of a safer, drug-free society.

Gunmen Hijack Funeral Convoy, Abduct Mourners Escorting FRSC Deputy Commander's Body, Demand ₦50m Ransom

A funeral procession conveying the remains of a late Deputy Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Augustine O. Ikwue, has been attacked by suspected kidnappers along the Ososo–Ajaokuta axis of Kogi State, with several mourners reportedly abducted. The late officer, popularly known as "Etume Zero," was being transported to his hometown in Benue State for burial when the armed men ambushed the convoy. According to reports, the attackers abducted several mourners and initially took away the corpse of the deceased officer into the bush alongside the victims. Citizen journalist and activist Meddy Olotu disclosed that the kidnappers later abandoned the corpse, which was subsequently recovered near Ejule in Kogi State.
