Gov Ododo Flags Off Kogi International Airport Project, Signs Landmark Construction Deal in Lokoja.

The Kogi State Government has taken a bold step toward transforming its economic landscape as Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo officially signed contracts for the construction of a new international airport in Lokoja.

The landmark project, which is set to be located in Zariagi, within the state capital, signals a major push by the administration to strengthen infrastructure, boost connectivity, and position Kogi as a strategic investment hub in Nigeria.

At a formal ceremony held at the Government House in Lokoja, Governor Ododo presented contract award letters to China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and Gamji Nigeria Limited, the firms responsible for executing the project.

Describing the initiative as a “strategic investment,” the governor emphasized that the airport would serve as a catalyst for economic growth, facilitating trade, enhancing transportation networks, and attracting both local and international investors.

According to him, the project aligns with his administration’s broader vision of infrastructural development and sustainable economic expansion across Kogi State.

The proposed airport in Zariagi is expected to open up the state, improve ease of movement, and create new opportunities for businesses and residents alike, further reinforcing Kogi’s position as a gateway between Nigeria’s northern and southern regions.

Gunmen Hijack Funeral Convoy, Abduct Mourners Escorting FRSC Deputy Commander's Body, Demand ₦50m Ransom

A funeral procession conveying the remains of a late Deputy Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Augustine O. Ikwue, has been attacked by suspected kidnappers along the Ososo–Ajaokuta axis of Kogi State, with several mourners reportedly abducted. The late officer, popularly known as "Etume Zero," was being transported to his hometown in Benue State for burial when the armed men ambushed the convoy. According to reports, the attackers abducted several mourners and initially took away the corpse of the deceased officer into the bush alongside the victims. Citizen journalist and activist Meddy Olotu disclosed that the kidnappers later abandoned the corpse, which was subsequently recovered near Ejule in Kogi State. However, the abducted mourners remain in captivity. The kidnappers are reportedly demanding a ransom of ₦50 million for the release of the victims.
