Osogbo Shooting: Police Reaffirm Commitment to Transparent Probe After Customs Statement

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reaffirmed its commitment to a transparent investigation into the fatal shooting of a civilian in the Dada Estate area of Osogbo, Osun State.
The police made the clarification following a statement earlier issued by the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) regarding the incident, which has generated public concern.

In a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Okon Placid, the police acknowledged the Customs Service’s statutory responsibilities in anti-smuggling operations but emphasised that the protection of human life remains the highest priority of the state.
According to the statement, the Inspector General of Police noted the NCS’s call for a harmonised investigation into the incident.

The police said the investigation, currently being handled by the Osun State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), would be carried out with the highest level of forensic diligence to ensure transparency.
The suspects identified as Kolawole Suuti and Danjuma Samuel are currently in police custody to enable a thorough investigation.

Police also disclosed that exhibits recovered from the scene, including a Beretta pistol (Breech No. 125024) and 9mm ballistic evidence, are undergoing specialised forensic analysis in line with operational Rules of Engagement.

The Force emphasised that it maintains a strong professional relationship with the Nigeria Customs Service and stressed that the matter is being treated strictly as an issue of individual professional accountability.

The police further urged the public not to portray the incident as a conflict between the two agencies, noting that both organisations remain committed to ensuring justice for the deceased.

The Nigeria Police Force also extended its condolences to the family of the victim and reiterated its commitment to ensuring that the outcome of the investigation upholds the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Gunmen Hijack Funeral Convoy, Abduct Mourners Escorting FRSC Deputy Commander's Body, Demand ₦50m Ransom

A funeral procession conveying the remains of a late Deputy Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Augustine O. Ikwue, has been attacked by suspected kidnappers along the Ososo–Ajaokuta axis of Kogi State, with several mourners reportedly abducted. The late officer, popularly known as "Etume Zero," was being transported to his hometown in Benue State for burial when the armed men ambushed the convoy. According to reports, the attackers abducted several mourners and initially took away the corpse of the deceased officer into the bush alongside the victims. Citizen journalist and activist Meddy Olotu disclosed that the kidnappers later abandoned the corpse, which was subsequently recovered near Ejule in Kogi State.
