The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Department of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Force Headquarters, Abuja, and Supervising DIG for the South-West Geo-Political Zone, DIG Fayoade Mustapha Adegoke, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to sustaining peace, strengthening public confidence, and ensuring effective policing across Osun State ahead of the forthcoming election.
Speaking during his official duty tour of the Osun State Police Command, the DIG conveyed the goodwill of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and commended the Command for its dedication to maintaining the relative peace and security enjoyed in the State.
Addressing officers and men of the Command, critical stakeholders, and members of the media, DIG Fayoade described the visit as both official and personally significant, noting his ties to Osun State while emphasizing that his foremost responsibility remains the safety and security of all residents.
The DIG acknowledged recent security concerns, particularly cult-related incidents recorded during the current electioneering period, but expressed confidence in the proactive operational efforts of the Command. He noted that the recovery of arms and ammunition, intelligence-led operations, and other strategic measures had contributed significantly to preventing criminal activities and preserving public order.
He commended the Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, CP Ibrahim Gotan, for his purposeful leadership and the operational successes recorded under his watch. He also praised officers and men of the Command for their professionalism, dedication, resilience, and commitment to duty.
Reiterating the position of the Nigeria Police Force during the democratic process, DIG Fayoade stressed that the Force remains a professional and apolitical institution guided strictly by the Constitution and the rule of law.
"Our allegiance is to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and not to any political interest. Officers must remain impartial, disciplined, and professional in the discharge of their responsibilities," he said.
The DIG also expressed appreciation to the Osun State Government, particularly for the support facilitated through the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Osun State Chapter, including the provision of operational vehicles and other interventions that have strengthened policing capacity across the State.
As part of his engagements, DIG Fayoade visited the Osun State Government House, where he held a crucial meeting with Governor Ademola Adeleke. The meeting focused on sustaining the peaceful atmosphere across the State ahead of the forthcoming election and strengthening collaboration between the State Government and the Nigeria Police Force.
The meeting also provided an opportunity to resolve the differences between the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan, and the Osun State Government. The discussions were cordial and fruitful, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to working together in the collective interest of peace, security, and the successful conduct of the electoral process.
The DIG assured the Governor that the Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, would remain steadfast in protecting lives and property, maintaining law and order, and ensuring that the forthcoming election is conducted in a peaceful, free, fair, and secure environment.
DIG Fayoade also paid a courtesy visit to the Ataoja of Osogbo, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji Olanipekun, Larooye II. Through the revered monarch, he expressed appreciation to all traditional rulers in Osun State for their unwavering support and cooperation with the Police and other security agencies.
He informed the monarch that the Inspector-General of Police had approved the deployment of additional police personnel to Osun State to further strengthen security and address emerging challenges during the election period.
The DIG also extended his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in recent security incidents and reassured residents that no political interest would be allowed to disrupt the relative peace currently enjoyed in the State.
Among those in attendance were members of the National Association of Retired Police Officers of Nigeria (NARPON), Osun State Chapter, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), and other critical stakeholders. The DIG commended them for their continued partnership in promoting community policing, improving intelligence gathering, and strengthening public trust in the Nigeria Police Force.
He called on traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups, religious organisations, civil society organisations, and all residents of Osun State to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information that would assist in preventing crime and ensuring public safety.
DIG Fayoade charged officers and men of the Command to remain vigilant, strengthen intelligence gathering, deepen inter-agency collaboration, and continue to uphold the highest standards of professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
He concluded by reaffirming that the Nigeria Police Force, under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, remains fully committed to maintaining peace, protecting lives and property, and ensuring a safe and secure environment for all residents of Osun State before, during, and after the forthcoming election.
