Access Bank Debunks Fake Shutdown Notice, Reassures Customers of Stable Operations

Management Describes Viral Shutdown Claim as Fake, Vows Legal Action Against Perpetrators

Lagos, Nigeria – Access Bank Plc has dismissed as false and misleading a viral social media message claiming that the bank has shut down its operations.

In a statement issued by the bank's management, Access Bank described the circulating notice as the work of fraudsters who impersonated the bank's official social media handle in an attempt to spread misinformation and create unnecessary panic.

The bank assured customers, business partners, stakeholders, and the general public that it remains financially strong, safe, and fully operational across all its subsidiaries.

According to the statement, all banking services are running seamlessly, with the institution maintaining its commitment to delivering quality financial services to customers.

Access Bank also disclosed that it is working with relevant regulatory agencies and law enforcement authorities to identify those behind the fake publication. It warned that those responsible would face legal action in line with Nigeria's laws.

The bank further reminded the public that creating and spreading false information capable of causing public alarm, damaging reputations, or undermining confidence in institutions is an offence under Section 24 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) (Amendment) Act, 2024.

Customers and members of the public were urged not to share or forward the fake message but to rely only on information released through Access Bank's official and verified communication channels.

The bank expressed appreciation to its customers, partners, and stakeholders for their continued trust and confidence, reiterating its commitment to providing secure and uninterrupted banking services.

Gunmen Hijack Funeral Convoy, Abduct Mourners Escorting FRSC Deputy Commander's Body, Demand ₦50m Ransom

A funeral procession conveying the remains of a late Deputy Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Augustine O. Ikwue, has been attacked by suspected kidnappers along the Ososo–Ajaokuta axis of Kogi State, with several mourners reportedly abducted. The late officer, popularly known as "Etume Zero," was being transported to his hometown in Benue State for burial when the armed men ambushed the convoy. According to reports, the attackers abducted several mourners and initially took away the corpse of the deceased officer into the bush alongside the victims. Citizen journalist and activist Meddy Olotu disclosed that the kidnappers later abandoned the corpse, which was subsequently recovered near Ejule in Kogi State.
