Major Blow to Terrorists as Two Senior Commanders Surrender to Troops in North-East

Maiduguri, Nigeria – Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have recorded another major success in the ongoing counter-insurgency campaign with the surrender of two senior terrorist commanders, a development the military says will significantly strengthen intelligence-driven operations across the North-East.
According to a statement issued by Operation HADIN KAI, the two surrendered commanders, identified as Munzirs within the terrorist leadership hierarchy, surrendered to troops of Sector 2 in Geidam on July 4, 2026. They were subsequently transported to Maiduguri, arriving at about 7:30 p.m. on July 5, where they are currently in military custody undergoing detailed profiling, debriefing and intelligence exploitation.
Military authorities disclosed that preliminary interrogation revealed that the two men occupied strategic leadership positions within the terrorist organisation, giving them extensive knowledge of its command structure, operational planning, logistics network and support systems.
The military said information already obtained from the ongoing debriefing has provided critical intelligence on the group's operational tactics, supply routes and internal structures. The intelligence is expected to support ongoing operations aimed at locating, disrupting and dismantling remaining terrorist enclaves across the North-East.
Operation HADIN KAI described the surrender as another significant setback for the terrorist group, noting that it demonstrates the effectiveness of the sustained military offensive being carried out in collaboration with other security partners.
According to the statement, the sustained pressure from coordinated land and air operations, backed by intelligence-led missions, has continued to restrict the terrorists' freedom of movement, weaken their fighting capability and dismantle their command-and-control structures.
The military added that the increasing number of terrorists laying down their arms reflects the growing impact of the ongoing campaign, with many fighters and commanders finding it increasingly difficult to sustain the insurgency.
Operation HADIN KAI reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining the operational momentum until all terrorist elements are either neutralised or persuaded to surrender. It assured Nigerians that troops will continue to exploit actionable intelligence, intensify offensive operations and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to restore lasting peace, security and stability across the North-East.
