Former Borno State Governor and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ali Modu Sheriff, has declared that the North will not support Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election, while maintaining that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is pursuing his political ambition without the backing of Northern political leaders.
Sheriff made the remarks while speaking on the evolving political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections, as consultations and coalition talks continue among major opposition figures.
According to the former governor, the political realities in Northern Nigeria do not favour Peter Obi, whom he said lacks the widespread political structure and support required to secure the region's votes. He argued that electoral victory in Nigeria depends on broad national acceptance, particularly in the North, which remains a decisive voting bloc.
Sheriff also suggested that Atiku Abubakar's political calculations should not be interpreted as representing the collective position of Northern politicians or the region as a whole.
