Ondo Police Record Major Security Gains as CP Felix Ohagwu Marks First 60 Days in Office

Akure, Ondo State – Sixty days after assuming office as Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, CP Felix Ohagwu, psc, mnips, mspsp, has begun to redefine policing through intelligence-led operations, proactive community engagement, and strategic deployment of security assets across the state.

Since taking over the Command, CP Ohagwu has focused on strengthening public safety by combining operational efficiency with closer collaboration between the police and local communities. His approach has resulted in notable crime-fighting successes while boosting public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.

One of the major challenges during the period was the circulation of fake news and misinformation between May and June, which threatened to create fear and panic among residents. In response, the Commissioner directed all Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) to intensify community engagement by holding regular meetings with traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, school proprietors, and other critical stakeholders.

The initiative helped reassure residents, counter false narratives with verified information, and encouraged citizens to go about their lawful activities without fear.

Recognising the changing security landscape within Ondo and neighbouring states, the Command also strengthened security presence across major towns, highways, border communities, and identified flashpoints. Tactical units, including the Police Mobile Force and operatives from the State Intelligence Department, were strategically deployed to prevent the infiltration of criminal elements and respond swiftly to emerging threats.

The Command has equally intensified intelligence-led policing through regular show-of-force operations, visibility patrols, confidence-building patrols, bush-combing exercises, targeted raids on criminal hideouts, and the deployment of drone technology to enhance surveillance and operational effectiveness.

These coordinated efforts have yielded measurable results. Within the last 60 days, the Command has recorded significant arrests and prosecutions involving kidnapping, armed robbery, burglary, stealing, rape, defilement, cultism, fraud, and other violent crimes. Several kidnapped victims have been rescued, illegal firearms and ammunition recovered, dangerous suspects neutralised, and criminal networks dismantled through sustained intelligence-driven operations.

Beyond enforcement, the Ondo State Police Command has continued to strengthen collaboration with other security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders, and residents. This partnership has improved intelligence gathering, enhanced operational response, and reinforced public trust in the police as a dependable institution committed to protecting lives and property.

Although still in the early days of his administration, CP Felix Ohagwu has established a clear operational direction anchored on professionalism, accountability, strategic leadership, and proactive policing.

As the Command consolidates its achievements, it maintains a firm resolve that Ondo State will not provide safe haven for criminals. Under CP Ohagwu's leadership, the Command remains committed to preserving peace, protecting lives and property, and creating a secure environment where residents can live, work, and conduct legitimate businesses without fear.
