Abuja – The Nigeria Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening community policing nationwide, following a pledge of full support from the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu, for the committee's Safe Schools Initiative and other strategic programmes.
Speaking during an official visit to the PCRC National Secretariat in Abuja, CSP Iniedu commended members of the committee for their resilience, dedication, and unwavering commitment to fostering stronger police-community relations across Nigeria.
"I thank you for your persistence. I thank you for your patience. If you had not been persistent and patient, the PCRC would not have remained as strong as it is today," he said.
The Force spokesperson, who described himself as a son and grandson of police officers, recalled growing up hearing about the vital role the PCRC has played in supporting policing efforts across the country.
He particularly praised the committee's recently launched Safe Schools Initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that aligns with the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to safeguarding schools and creating safer learning environments for students and teachers.
CSP Iniedu also lauded the National Chairman of the PCRC, Alhaji Mogaji Ibraheem Olaniyan, for his passion, sacrifice, and unwavering support for the Nigeria Police Force. Recounting a recent meeting with the chairman, he described Olaniyan's willingness to wait several hours to see him as a reflection of exceptional commitment to public service.
The Force PRO further disclosed that Inspector-General of Police IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu warmly received ceremonial PCRC lapels presented by the committee and immediately directed that they be worn by a civilian staff member in his office after offering prayers over them, describing the gesture as a demonstration of the Police leadership's appreciation for the committee's work.
He also thanked the PCRC for donating cameras to the Force Public Relations Department and Police Public Relations Officers across the country, noting that the equipment would strengthen police public communication and improve information management.
Declaring his total commitment to the committee, CSP Iniedu assured members that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to support every initiative aimed at strengthening community policing.
"You have my full backing. Anywhere you call me, anytime, I will be there. I will continue to support this laudable project and every initiative that promotes the objectives of the PCRC," he stated.
Earlier, the National Chairman of the PCRC, Alhaji Mogaji Ibraheem Olaniyan, described IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu as an exceptional leader whose humility, accessibility, and commitment to community policing have strengthened the relationship between the Police and the PCRC.
Olaniyan announced that the committee is expanding its Safe Schools Initiative by mobilising 10,000 volunteers nationwide to work alongside the Nigeria Police, community leaders, and other stakeholders in protecting schools across the country.
He also revealed plans to support the installation of CCTV surveillance systems in schools, particularly those located in vulnerable and remote communities, to enhance security and deter criminal activities.
The PCRC chairman further disclosed that construction of the committee's new National Headquarters is progressing steadily and is expected to be completed and commissioned in December.
According to him, members have unanimously resolved to name the new headquarters after Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, in recognition of his support for community policing and the PCRC. The facility, he added, will also include a dedicated office for the Force Public Relations Officer to further strengthen collaboration between the Police and the committee.
The visit underscored the shared commitment of the Nigeria Police Force and the PCRC to deepening community policing, enhancing school safety, building public trust, and promoting citizen participation as critical pillars of effective policing in Nigeria.
