OSUN 2026: PSC DEPLOYS MONITORING TEAM, WARNS POLICE AGAINST ELECTORAL MISCONDUCT

Commission Vows Sanctions for Officers Who Compromise August 15 Governorship Poll

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has deployed a high-powered monitoring team to Osun State ahead of the August 15, 2026 Governorship Election, warning police personnel against misconduct, partisanship and any action capable of undermining the credibility of the poll.

The monitoring delegation, led by DIG (Dr.) Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), a Board Member and Chairman of the PSC Standing Committee on Police Matters, will monitor the conduct of police officers deployed for election duties across the state.

According to the Commission, the deployment is aimed at ensuring that police personnel strictly comply with the rules governing election duties and maintain the highest standards of professionalism, discipline and impartiality before, during and after the election.

The PSC said it was committed to strengthening public confidence in the electoral process by ensuring that police conduct remains professional, civil, impartial and firmly guided by the law.

The Commission urged all officers deployed to Osun State to remain apolitical and protect the rights of citizens to vote freely, peacefully and without intimidation.

It further warned that officers must not allow their personal interests or political affiliations to interfere with their official responsibilities during the election.

The PSC reassured Nigerians that it would closely monitor the conduct of police personnel throughout the electoral period and would not hesitate to investigate and sanction any officer found compromising the credibility or peaceful conduct of the election.

Gunmen Hijack Funeral Convoy, Abduct Mourners Escorting FRSC Deputy Commander's Body, Demand ₦50m Ransom

A funeral procession conveying the remains of a late Deputy Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Augustine O. Ikwue, has been attacked by suspected kidnappers along the Ososo–Ajaokuta axis of Kogi State, with several mourners reportedly abducted. The late officer, popularly known as "Etume Zero," was being transported to his hometown in Benue State for burial when the armed men ambushed the convoy. According to reports, the attackers abducted several mourners and initially took away the corpse of the deceased officer into the bush alongside the victims. Citizen journalist and activist Meddy Olotu disclosed that the kidnappers later abandoned the corpse, which was subsequently recovered near Ejule in Kogi State. However, the abducted mourners remain in captivity. The kidnappers are reportedly demanding a ransom of ₦50 million for the release of the victims.
