Rivers Police Bust Suspected Kidnapping Syndicate, Arrest Five Operatives in Oyigbo


The Rivers State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its ongoing fight against violent crime with the arrest of five suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate during a coordinated intelligence-led operation in Oyigbo Local Government Area of the state.

The operation was carried out on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command, CP Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju, psc, mnips, fcai, as part of sustained efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.

Operatives attached to the Oyigbo Divisional Police Headquarters arrested the five suspects identified as Ezekiel Emmanuel, 44, from Benue State; Chukwuma Mbanefor, 51, from Anambra State; Nicholas Diala, 65, from Imo State; Ndubuisi Uwakwe, 49, from Abia State; and Ifeanyi Nwakwo, 51, from Imo State.

According to the Police, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects confessed to their involvement in kidnapping activities and admitted participating in several abduction operations across Kom-Kom, Railway, Obeama and Afam communities within Rivers State.

The Command disclosed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal syndicate who remain at large.

Reacting to the development, Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adewole Adepoju described the operation as another testament to the effective implementation of the operational directives and intelligence-driven policing strategy of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc, NPM.

He reaffirmed the Command's unwavering commitment to sustaining aggressive intelligence-led operations against kidnapping, cultism, armed robbery and other violent crimes across the state.

The Commissioner warned that Rivers State will not serve as a safe haven for kidnappers or any other criminal elements, stressing that the Police will continue to relentlessly pursue, arrest and ensure that offenders are brought to justice.

CP Adepoju also assured residents of the Command's commitment to protecting lives and property, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible and timely information that will aid security agencies in preventing crime and apprehending criminals.

The Rivers State Police Command reiterated that collaboration between the Police and the public remains critical to strengthening security and ensuring lasting peace across the state.

Gunmen Hijack Funeral Convoy, Abduct Mourners Escorting FRSC Deputy Commander's Body, Demand ₦50m Ransom

A funeral procession conveying the remains of a late Deputy Corps Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Augustine O. Ikwue, has been attacked by suspected kidnappers along the Ososo–Ajaokuta axis of Kogi State, with several mourners reportedly abducted. The late officer, popularly known as "Etume Zero," was being transported to his hometown in Benue State for burial when the armed men ambushed the convoy. According to reports, the attackers abducted several mourners and initially took away the corpse of the deceased officer into the bush alongside the victims. Citizen journalist and activist Meddy Olotu disclosed that the kidnappers later abandoned the corpse, which was subsequently recovered near Ejule in Kogi State.
