PSC, Police Affairs Ministry Forge Strategic Alliance for Better Policing in Nigeria
In a renewed drive toward building a more efficient, accountable, and citizen-centered Nigeria Police Force, the Police Service Commission (PSC) and the Ministry of Police Affairs have established a new partnership focused on enhanced collaboration and strategic alignment.
On Wednesday, May 7, 2025, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police Affairs, Dr. Anuma Ogbonnaya, led a high-powered delegation of Directors and Heads of Departments on a courtesy visit to the PSC Headquarters. The delegation was warmly received by the PSC Chairman, DIG Hashimu Argungu (Rtd), mni; Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (Rtd), Honourable Commissioner representing the Judiciary; DIG Taiwo Lakanu (Rtd), fdc, Honourable Commissioner representing the Police; Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, Secretary to the Commission; and other top management officials of the Commission.
In his remarks, PSC Chairman DIG Argungu hailed the initiative as a significant step toward fostering a more synergized working relationship between both government bodies. He emphasized the importance of regular communication and mutual respect, noting that no agency can work in isolation in ensuring national security.
“There must be robust collaboration between police oversight institutions. This renewed partnership is a good beginning and a necessary step toward more effective policing,” Argungu stated.
Dr. Ogbonnaya, on behalf of the Honourable Minister of Police Affairs, reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening ties with the Commission. He noted that the visit reflects the Ministry’s recognition of the vital role the PSC plays in ensuring professionalism within the Nigeria Police Force.
“Our mandates are intrinsically linked. Effective collaboration is crucial to achieving our shared security objectives,” he remarked. “We deeply appreciate the PSC’s role in recruitment, promotion, discipline, and welfare of police personnel. Your independence and dedication to high standards are essential for building public trust and operational effectiveness.”
The Permanent Secretary identified several key areas where closer collaboration could significantly enhance policing outcomes and pledged continued support for the Commission’s mission.
This renewed alliance marks a promising chapter in the ongoing reform efforts aimed at transforming Nigeria’s policing landscape.
